BIG SHOT
Created and Performed by Jon Lachlan Stewart
Presented by The London Fringe and The Grand Theatre
JANUARY 22-23, 2015 at 8:00PM
A shooting has just occurred on the Vancouver Skytrain, and a twelve-year-old boy who was at the scene of the crime retells it all for the audience, in the style of his favorite action movies. Complete with slo-mo stops, freeze frames and fast-forwards, the boy weaves in and out of every character involved, all a part of Vancouver’s diverse, fractured communities. Big Shot is a portrait of the cultural tensions that spark violence within an urban community– and a riveting piece of multi-media physical theatre.
Striking visuals and a powerhouse solo performance in Big Shot have been lauded in cities across Canada, in a piece that is topical now more than ever. Incidents of violence or shootings in the media are always filtered before reaching the public, and we rarely learn about the humanity behind the violence before we move on to the next story. Big Shot explodes the stereotypes we might hold about race and class, exposing the story behind these Vancouver characters. Now London has its chance to see this national touring favorite.
